GPS: outdoor location needs more than a pin on a map.

GPS helps a receiver determine its position from satellite signals. To see an asset or vehicle remotely, the position must also be reported through a separate connection and matched to your workflow.

When GPS fits

A good fit

Outdoor vehicles or mobile equipment when you need location context between named sites.

Needs assessment

Satellite visibility, power, network coverage, reporting interval, and how the system handles an old or missing position.

Consider another method

For indoor zone presence, assess BLE. For a deliberate check at one point, consider NFC, barcode, or RFID.

From signal to operational record

A GPS receiver calculates a position; a connected device would then send a time-stamped update to an application. That application must relate the update to the right asset and decide what an arrival or exception means. The device, data path, and software integration are scoped for each project.

Explore related approaches

For item movement through defined read points, see TUDI Lacak and the existing RFID guide. A GPS reporting path for moving assets would be scoped separately.
